Low-Cost, High-Sensitivity Detection of Waterborne Al3+ Cations and F− Anions via the Fluorescence Response of a Morin Derivative Dye

Morin dye is known as a cheap and readily available selective ‘off → on’ fluorescent sensitiser when immobilised in phase transfer membrane for the detection of Al3+ ions. Here, morin derivative, NaMSA, which dissolves water with good long-term stability used conjunction fibre-optic transducer lock-in to detect drinking below potability limit. The combination water-soluble require neither preparation nor fluorescence spectrometer yet still display high figure merit. ability recover morin-based cation sensors selectively by exposure fluoride (F−) anions further developed, enabling complementary sensing either anions, or aluminium cations, using same sub-micromolar limit-of-detection both sensor performance parameters compare favourably prior reports on aqueous ion sensing.
